Aldi Australia
The German brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht certainly wouldn’t have thought that their no frills grocery store concept Aldi could be one of Germany’s major export success stories when they started their business in 1913.
Aldi set foot on Australian shores in 2001 and since has quickly build up over 200 stores covering NSW, VIC, QLD and ACT. Clearly, downunder must have been a economically viable market. How else could Aldi afford stores in prime locations such as Manly Wharf?
Leibspeise is pretty sure that not only the more than 100,000 Germans living in Australia, but also Aussies must have fallen in love with Aldi’s no frills stores offering good quality for little money as well as German specialities. How can anyone resist such German delights like Palazzo biscuits, Haribo Gummi Bears, Ritter Sport chocolate and Stollen, Spekulatius and Dominosteine for Christmas…
